5 Words & Phrases To Delete From Your Content To Add More Authority

Ever wish your content or copywriting carried more authority? 



Authority is one of those funny buzz words that we hear alllllllll the time.



Communicating authority, means you’re communicating power. Confidence. Knowledge. Expertise. 



→ All qualities that’ll make your future clients swoon & run to grab their credit cards 😍



If I had to take a guess [First Name], I’d probably say that there’s some sneaky words & phrases that are slowly, but surely chipping away at your authority. 



We’re getting to work on deleting those forever, starting right freakin now so you can sound like the badass we both know you are!👇🏼




1️⃣ “Just” 

“I just wanted to let you know…” 



→ This word makes you sound insecure and like you don’t know what you’re talking about 

→ When you “just” do something, you’re actually diminishing how important the activity was 



Consider this: Have you ever heard a CEO say they “just” wanted to let you know something? Or do they just straight up tell you? Decide how you want to communicate with your people. 



2️⃣ “I think” 

I think we need to talk about this….”



→ I assume it’s your thought because you’re the one saying it. 

→ You don’t need to let me know it’s what you think because it’s coming from that big, beautiful brain of yours 😘



Consider this: If it feels really uncomfortable to start a sentence without using “I think”, use it as a placeholder. Then go back and delete it because you don’t actually need it as your sentence starter.






3️⃣ “In my opinion” 

In my opinion, you should really stop…” 



→ Again, I know it’s your opinion because you’re the one saying it 

→ Delete the fluff. Delete the filler. And get straight to the point because that’s what a CEO does



Consider this: Using fluff like “in my opinion” is delaying you from actually making the point you want to make. Say it in your head, then write the rest of the sentence so you can be more clear & concise in your writing. 




4️⃣ “If I’m being honest” 

If I’m being honest, your shirt is really fugly” 



→ Were you not being honest before? 

→ When you say this, you insinuate that we can’t actually trust what you’re saying when you’re not giving this disclaimer. 



Consider this: How much easier would it be to write your copy if you just say what you mean, and mean what you say? Seriously! Stop putting on a show and get the words out! You got this! 




5️⃣ “Not to be an asshole, but…” 

“Not to be an asshole, but I really think you can write better copy than this”



→ Chances are if you’re saying this, you’re probably acting like an asshole 

→ Speak your truth confidently, clearly and without concerns about what people might think



Consider this: If you’re saying something questionable, spicy, opinionated, etc… own it. Stop being afraid of offending people. Chances are you’re offending them more by letting them know that you’re being an asshole. 




We’ve all been there before and I’d be missing the big picture if I didn’t tell you that I’ve been guilty of using these words/phrases too. 



At the end of the day though, you owe it to yourself and your business to use your words to empower your audience to make investments that are in integrity with where they are right now and where they want to go. 



Cut the fluff. Cut the filler. Cut the nonsense. 



And start writing copy that you can be proud of. Copy that’s honest, vulnerable, informative and entertaining. 



And brings in that cash 💸
