Branding Prompts For Small Business Owners

When you’re thinking about your personal brand, it can be somewhat challenging to tune out all of the noise in the online space.

Popular coaches will say that your brand is dependent on factors like a perfectly curated social media feed, viral videos, and professional photos. But if you’ve been in the corner of the Internet where the entrepreneurs have been hanging out, you know that this simply isn’t true.

Don’t get me wrong - those things are important for brand awareness and expanding both your reach and lead pool. But they’re not going to get you the results you’re chasing if your words don’t match.

Meaning - if your brand guide is covering your colors, logo, fonts, brand mission and vision, but it’s not covering your words, tone, mood and audience perception then it’s falling short.

Consider this → if your vibe is friendly and outgoing, but your words are harsh and unrelenting, there’s going to be a gigantic disconnect between your leads and your brand. The goal with your branding is to make all of the parts of your business a cohesive unit that work together for the ultimate goal which is to provide value and generate a bigger income.

Your words have power.

Think back to when you were a kid and you would hear the classic phrase:

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

If you’re anything like me, you know that phrase is total BS. Your words have so much more power than you’re giving them credit for. They can inspire or break down.

That being said, you need to take a look at your brand currently, as it is right now. If your vibe is open, welcoming, friendly, and warm, I want you to take a look at your content and see if it matches. Do your captions come across the same way? Do they give you the same vibe? That vibe is your tone.

If you’re ready to refine those words and get crystal clear on your branding, use the prompts below to guide your writing:

  • How do you want to be perceived by your audience?

  • How do you want your brand to make your audience feel?

  • What do you want people to remember about your brand?

  • What should people immediately know about your brand after visiting your page?

Make sure to set up a quiet, vibey space for yourself to journal on these prompts. Allow what’s coming up for you to paint a picture on the page in front of you. And remember - the more you do this work, the better you’ll serve your clients!
